Coach Training

AYSO coach training and certification requirements for Region 13. Online courses, in-person clinics, and SafeSport.

Coach Training

All coaches must complete training before the season begins. Training covers both safety requirements and soccer-specific skills for your age division.


Required Training for All Coaches

Administrative Requirements

  1. Annual volunteer application (through InLeague)
  2. Annual background check (through InLeague)
  3. Livescan fingerprinting (once, unless you move to a new region)

Online Safety Courses

Complete these through AYSOU/eTrainU:

  1. SafeSport training
  2. AYSO Safe Haven
  3. CDC Concussion Awareness
  4. Sudden Cardiac Arrest awareness

Age-Specific Coach Certification

In-person or online course for your specific division.

6U Run and kick toward the goal None
8U Possession and passing skills None
10U Territory control and positioning None
12U Advanced tactics and positions None
14U (Intermediate) Tactical development One season as 12U coach
16U-19U (Advanced) Advanced coaching One season as Intermediate coach

How to Enroll

Online Courses

Register through AYSOU/eTrainU. Complete at your own pace before the season.

eTrainU

In-Person Classes

In-person coaching classes are offered August through September at various Southern California locations.

Certification Timeline

  • Complete all online courses before the season starts
  • Attend in-person class before your first practice
  • Certification is valid for the season; some courses require annual renewal
