Volunteer Roles
AYSO Region 13 offers volunteer positions ranging from team-level support to regional leadership.
Team Roles
Coach
Leads practices and games for a team. Requires age-specific certification. See Coaching Overview.
Assistant Coach
Supports the head coach with practices and games. Recommended for 6U-8U divisions. Same training requirements as head coach.
Referee
Officiates games. Requires 8U Official or Regional Referee certification. See Refereeing Overview.
Team Manager
Handles team communication and logistics. Requires orientation and Safe Haven training. See Manager Overview.
Executive Board Positions
All board positions require attendance at monthly meetings (first Thursday, 7:15 PM on Zoom).
Region Commissioner (RC)
Manages the entire region and all volunteers. Chairs monthly board meetings. Coordinates with Area 1/C.
Deputy Region Commissioner (DRC)
Assists the RC with projects and programs. Often filled by a previous Region Commissioner.
Treasurer
Manages accounts payable and receivable. Prepares financial reports and oversees the budget process.
Registrar
Manages player and volunteer registrations, waivers, background checks, and player assessments. Significant ongoing administrative work.
Secretary
Records and distributes board meeting minutes. Approximately 2 hours monthly.
Region Coach Administrator (RCA)
Oversees all coaching and coach training for the region. Requires previous coaching or DCA experience.
Region Referee Administrator (RRA)
Manages all refereeing and referee training for the region. Requires previous refereeing or DRA experience.
Child and Volunteer Protection Advocate (CVPA)
Ensures proper training and certification for all volunteers.
Safety Director
Oversees safety for all participants. Assists with injury management during events.
General Board Positions
Division Coach Administrator (DCA)
Confirms and recruits coaches for a specific division. Manages team formation and player ratings.
Division Referee Administrator (DRA)
Confirms and recruits referees for a specific division. Ensures referee certification and training.
Volunteer Coordinator / Team Manager Coordinator
Organizes general volunteers for tournaments and events. Conducts team manager orientations.
4U/5U Program Coordinator
Coordinates the preschool program, working with parent volunteers and professional trainers.
Director of Coach Instruction
Organizes coach training classes. Books venues and coordinates instructors. Approximately 8-12 hours pre-season.
Director of Referee Instruction
Organizes referee training classes. Similar responsibilities to coach instruction director.
Referee Assignor
Assigns center referees to games throughout the season.
Communication Director
Publishes the newsletter and manages the website.
Events Director
Plans the kickoff dinner (August) and awards dinner (December). Approximately 15-20 hours annually.
Uniform and Equipment Coordinator
Selects uniform styles and manages orders. Coordinates distribution to teams. Approximately 20+ hours annually, primarily June through August.
Picture Day Coordinator
Schedules photo appointments for teams and coordinates makeup photos. Approximately 10-15 hours annually.
Rose City Cup Director
Plans the December playoff tournament. Designs brackets and orders medals and trophies. Approximately 20-30 hours during December.
Awards and Trophies Team
Prepares shopping lists and purchases end-of-season awards. Approximately 4-6 hours in October plus 8 hours at end of season.
Statistician
Records scores and referee comments. Analyzes patterns and publishes standings.
